2021-’22

Blessed are the Peacemakers – 23 Dec 2021 – 3 pm

The Dept of English of St Albert’s College Ernakulam in association with the Albertian foundation conducted a social outreach programme as part of their Christmas celebration. The teachers and students of the English department visited the Central Police Station, High Court Road, Ernakulam and expressed their gratitude to the police officers for their selfless service during the Christmas season. The students sang Christmas carols and distributed hand made thank you cards, cakes, etc.

The Asst Commissioner of Police (Central Sub division, Kochi City), Mr. Jayakumar S interacted with the students and encouraged them to approach the police without inhibitions. He commented that the moral codes of the police are changing with the changing society, that we are moving forward, together. Vijayasankar S (Inspector & SHO of the Central Police Station), Premkumar S (Principal SI, Central Police Station), and other police officers were present. The programme was conducted under the coordination of Dr Mary Sapna Peter Miranda (Head of the Department of English), Dr. Nisha Thomji Varghese (IQAC Coordinator of St Albert’s College), Dr Sebastian A V, Dr John Sinoj, Dr Sweetha Saji, and Mr Anurag N T.

2019-’20

  • Lebenah Ahab – The Department of English, as a part of its social outreach programme “Lebenah Ahab” assisted Smt. Jolly Gabriel, Non-teaching staff of the college in building her house. The key of the newly built house was handed over to Smt. Jolly on 7th December, 2019 by Rev. Fr. Antony Arackal, the Chairman and Manager, St. Albert’s College.
  • Drachma Yon – Students collect a rupee a day as part of Drachma Yon and use the money collected for helping the less privileged.
  • Students also visit Old age homes and orphanages, conduct awareness drives about burning issues in societyand build the extra edge of knowing how to reach out and relate to their society.

2016-’17

The Department of English organized the inauguration of Lebanah Aheb on 11th July  2016 at the Bernard Hall. Mrs Archana Rao D’Cruz, Social Activist at Make A Difference  NGO was invited as the chief guest. The session commenced at 11 AM and the welcome  address was delivered by the Head of the Department of English, Prof Nisha Thomji Varghese. 

The project aims to build a house for one of the female non-teaching of the college. Mrs  Archana formally inaugurated the project and spoke on the need of such social initiatives and  hailed the project initiated by the Department. The session concluded at 12:30 PM and the vote  of thanks was proposed by Anurag N T, Student, III year BA English.Â
