WORKSHOP ON “ECO FRIENDLY PEN MAKING

On 05th June 2021

On 5th June2021, as part of world environment day the department of Travel and Tourism in association with the department of Retail Management has conducted events such as Online World Environment Day Awareness Quiz and Workshop on Eco friendly Pen Making. The workshop started at 4 PM with a welcome speech by Divya S Prabhu (First Year student of BVoc Travel and Tourism). Then the resource person Sani Sneha N M was invited to provide the technical session. It was an interactive session through which students got a chance to clear their doubts regarding the workshop. The programme winds up with a vote of thanks delivered by Nevin Poduthas, the second year student of BVoc Travel and Tourism. The session was fruitful for the students and they were encouraged to use more eco-friendly products for the conservation of nature.

WEBINAR ON “CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN AVIATION INDUSTRY

On 21th June 2021

On 21st June 2021, Department of Travel and Tourism of St. Albert’s College (Autonomous) had conducted a webinar on the topic “Career Opportunities in  Aviation Industry”, and the programme started at 2 P. M. Programme coordinator Arya M S (HOD) delivered a welcome speech. Then Ms.Geethu Gopalakrishnan, an aviation professional with more than 15 years of experience in the different wings of the aviation industry  was invited to take over the session. She talked about various job sections in the aviation industry and how to be skilled for each job. She made an authentic and vivid speech on the topic. The webinar concluded with a vote of thanks by the student coordinator Antony Jerrin, Second Year Bvoc Travel and Tourism.

The programme started with a welcome speech by the programme coordinator Prof. Amala mary K S . The chief guest of the day Mrs. Indu George, Assistant professor from Albertian Institute of management, Ernakulam had delivered the talk on soft skills and it provided helpful skills that can add to workplace toolkit. The webinar was fruitful for the students and it provided a way to improve  work, career, and  life. The webinar concluded with a vote of thanks by the student coordinator.

WEBINAR ON CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN TOURISM INDUSTRY

The Department of Travel and Tourism has organised a career guidance webinar on the topic “ Career opportunities in Tourism Industry” on 2nd July 2021 at 3.00 PM. The webinar started with a welcome speech by Ms. Amitha Babu, student coordinator of the programme followed by the inaugural address of Chief Guest, Mr. George Scaria, Managing Director of Kerala Voyages(India) Pvt. Ltd, Kochi. He has enormous experience in the field of travel and tourism. The speech was very informative and inspirational to the students. He explained the importance of various job opportunities and skilled manpower requirements in the tourism industry. The webinar concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Rohith Chandrashekar, second year student of BVoc Travel and Tourism.

WEBINAR ON SCUBA DIVING: EXPLORE UNDERWATER

On 10th June 2021

As part of world ocean day (8 June) the department of travel and tourism has conducted a webinar on scuba diving explore underwater on 10th June 2021. The event started at 3 pm with a welcome speech by Assistant Professor Arya M. S. (HoD, Department of Travel and Tourism) Then the resource person Mr. Hafiz Muhammad (Scuba instructor Bond Safari Kovalam Trivandrum) was invited to deliver the main speech. It was an interactive session through which students got an idea about scuba diving and its scope in the tourism industry. The program winds up with a vote of thanks delivered by Asst. Prof. Rahul Raghu.

As part of the program, an online drawing competition was organized. Many students participated in the competition and won prizes.


WEBINAR ON MERAKI: THE JOURNEY OF A SUCCESSFUL WOMAN ENTREPRENEUR

As part of international women’s day the department of Travel and Tourism organised a webinar on topic “ the Journey of a successful women entrepreneurship by Dr Devika Menon, Director of Princy World Travels Ltd, on 6th March 2021. The programme was started with a welcome speech by the Head of the department of travel and Tourism, Asst Prof Arya M. S., followed by the fruitful session of the resource person Dr. Devika Menon. The chief guest inspired the students with the successful story of the entrepreneur.The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by the student coordinator, Ms Reshma Mary Suresh.

INTERNATIONAL E-CONFERENCE ON AGRO TOURISM & ENTREPRENEURSHIP

On 17th March 2021

In connection with the “Albertian Knowledge Summit”, The Department of Travel and Tourism in association with the department of Retail Management has successfully organized an international E-conference  on the topic Agro Tourism & Entrepreneurship.

The programme was started by the prayer song, followed by the Welcome speech by Asst. Prof. Arya M. S., (HOD of Travel and Tourism) and we had our assistant manager Fr. John Christopher Vadassery chairing the function.Our chief guest and resource person Ms. Peggy Cheng  has formally inaugurated the function followed by the vote of  thanks by Asst. Prof. Amala Mary K. S.

Soon after the formal inauguration, begined the session, Ms. Peggy Cheng, where she started her session with Agro Tourism which was so enlightening. She detailed the mushroom cultivation and also added that to be a successful life  story of Gano farming. Her session was so informative.

The second session was taken by Dr. Jisha  Prabha (Assistant Professor ICAR Kerala Agricultural University). She dealt with the topic ‘The potential of agro tourism entrepreneurship in Kerala for revitalizing rural communities’. She stressed about the benefits received by the tourism entrepreneurship in Kerala, where the scope of agro tourism in kerala. She also talked about the new trends in Agro tourism, importance and Entrepreneurial growth in india. She also took the effort to make the students interact in between the sessions. The session really benefited our students.

The last session was done by Ms. Sumayya  Thayath (Master Trainer ASAP Govt of Kerala). She talked on the topic ‘Trends In Retailing”. She stressed about the power and advantages of retail detailing different examples which was so convincing.

Next session was paper presentations of students from the Dept. of Travel and Tourism and Dept. of Retail Management

The Valedictory function was done by Asst. Prof. Aparna Ayyappan.

TRAVEL VLOGGING: AN ENDLESS ADVENTURE

On 28th September 2020

On September 28, the Department of BVoc Travel and Tourism conducted a webinar on the topic “Travel Vlogging: An Endless Adventure” through google meet.

The webinar was coordinated by Professor Arya M.S and over 100 student participants joined the webinar including the students and teachers of St. Albert’s college.

The webinar was moderated by Mr. Sujith Bakthan , a social media influencer of Tech Travel Eat.

At the opening of the event, Prof. Arya M. S. addressed the participants with welcoming events and presented an introduction on travel vlogging Further , Mr. Sujith Bhakthan presented his experience in travel vlogging and about his adventure.  He highlighted the importance of vlogging and stated various tips on the best way to start a vlog and on how to start a vlog with no money. He mentioned how a camera plays an important role for the art of travel vloggers.

Many attendants sent in their questions and key challenges regarding travel vlogging.

At the end of the webinar, Professor Arya M.S thanked all the participants for their valuable contributions.

INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR ON TOURISM POLICY RESPONSES TO COVID 19

The Department of Travel and Tourism of St. Albert’s College organised a webinar via google meet on 27 September 2020, on the topic “Tourism Policy Responses to Covid-19 “

The webinar was coordinated by Prof. Arya M S and Prof. Amala Mary K.S. The students and staff of Albert’s shared their views on tourism and its policy during this global epidemic. Over 100 participants joined the webinar including the students and teaching staff of Albert’s.

The webinar was moderated by Mr. Vishnu Prasad, Audit Manager and Chartered Accountant, Room Division Supervisor Milavana Island Sanctuary, Madagascar

At the opening of the event, Prof. Arya Ms. addressed the participants with welcoming events and presented an introduction on Tourism and its policies during this covid period. Further, Mr Vishnu Prasad presented the changes the tourism industry faces in today’s situation. He stated how the tourism policy responses after the Covid-19 approach and the challenges faced due to it.

At the conclusion of the webinar, Prof. Amala Mary K.S thanked all the participants for their valuable contributions.


CUSTOMER RETENTION MANAGEMENT IN HOTEL INDUSTRY

The department of Travel and Tourism has successfully organized a national webinar on the topic Customer Retention Management in Hotel Industry on 26th August 2020.The webinar was a one hour session which has started by 3pm The webinar was coordinated by Prof. Arya M S. Many participants joined the webinar including the students and teaching staff of Albert’s. The webinar was moderated by Mr. Shilendran M, Vice President of Sales and Distribution, CGH Earth Experience Hotels.  At the opening of the event, Prof. Arya Ms. addressed the participants with welcoming events and presented an introduction on the Hotel industry. Further, the Chief Guest presented the importance of Customer Retention in the Hospitality sector. After the webinar, Prof. Nikitha Shaji Thomas thanked all the participants for their valuable contributions and proposed conducting a series of webinars on different topics to provide psychological support to students and others relevant to the current situation themes.

NATIONAL WEBINAR ON EMPOWERING TRIBES THROUGH CULTURAL TOURISM

The resource person for the webinar was Anoop R, Tribal Extension Officer, Tribal Development Department, Government of Kerala. The webinar started at 11 am with 70 participants and the session was closed after the question answer session by 12.10 pm.


NATIONAL WEBINAR ON CONSERVATION OF TIGERS THROUGH ECO-TOURISM

On 29th September 2020

Over 120 people took part in the webinar conducted by the Department of Travel and Tourism on 29 July 2020 to learn some expert advice on Conservation of tigers through ecotourism coordinated by Prof. Arya M.S.

The webinar was conducted in English using the Google meet tool including screen sharing.

The webinar was presented by a specialised resource person, Mr. Ramesh Babu who is an ecologist in the Periyar Tiger Conservation Foundation.

Many attendants sent in their questions and key challenges when it comes to conserving tigers through ecotourism and there were some common themes, which Mr. Ramesh Babu addressed during this one hour session.

At the conclusion of the webinar, Prof. Nikitha Shaji Thomas thanked all the participants for their valuable contributions.

NATIONAL WEBINAR ON WOMEN EMPOWERMENT AND WORK- LIFE BALANCE

The Department of Travel and Tourism of St. Albert’s College organised a webinar via google meet on 15 July 2020, on the topic “Women Empowerment and Work Life Balance”.

The webinar was coordinated by Prof. Arya M. S. and Prof. Nikitha Shaji Thomas. The students and staff members of Albert’s shared their views on women empowerment. Over 100 participants joined the webinar including the students and teaching staff of Albert’s.

The webinar was moderated by Miss. M. S. Preetha Shenoy, Audit Manager and Chartered Accountant, Thrissur.

At the opening of the event, Prof. Arya M. S. addressed the participants with welcoming events and presented an introduction on women empowerment. Further, Miss Preetha Shenoy presented the importance of women empowerment in today’s generation. She stated how women’s empowerment is the most crucial part to be noted for the overall development of a country and how it has become a significant topic of discussion in development and economics. She highlighted the importance on how women empowerment and work life balance are the most recent topics that have taken attention of most researchers and led to the conclusion on how on one end it is said that Women Empowerment is necessary for the up-liftmen of the society and equally on the other end the Work-Life Balance becomes a limitation for a women to uplift herself and show her core competencies.

At the conclusion of the webinar, Prof. Nikitha Shaji Thomas thanked all the participants for their valuable contributions and proposed conducting a series of webinars on different topics to provide psychological support to students and other relevant to the current situation themes.

In connection with “Albertian Knowledge Summit”, The Department of Travel and Tourism in association with the department of Fitness Management and Personal Training has successfully organized an international seminar on the topic “Medical and Wellness Tourism”.

The programme was started by the prayer song,followed by the Welcome speech by Ms. Arsha Sathyan, (HOD of Fitness management) and we had our assistant manager Fr. Jolly John Odathakkal and our Vice principal Fr.John Christopher for chairing the function.

Our chief guest and resource person Dr. C V Jayanthy has formally inaugurated the function followed by the vote of thanks by Mrs. Arya MS. Soon after the formal inauguration, begined the session 1, by Dr. C V Jayanthy, where he started her session by chanting a mantra which was so enlightening. She detailed the importance of yoga and wellness and also added that to be successful in life you have to elevate your consciousness and for that you have to practise Yoga,by always keeping a smile on your face. Her session was so informative. Then we had 7 paper presentations from the students of MG university physical education department, which was successfully chaired by Dr. C V Jayanthy.

TOURISM AND JOB: A BETTER FUTURE FOR ALL

On 27th September 2019

On 27 September 2019, the department of Travel and Tourism and the department of Retail Management together celebrated World tourism day. The program was conducted in the Emanuel hall, St. Albert’s college (Autonomous). The inauguration was done by the chief guests Mr. Vijayan and Mrs. Mohana, (owner of Balajee coffee shop and world travellers) by lighting the lamp followed by sharing their travel experiences around the world. The welcome speech was given by Asst.professor Arya M S, HOD of Travel and Tourism followed by the presidential address of our beloved principal. Dr. M L Joseph. After the inaugural ceremony, Vice-principal Father John Christopher gave the felicitation speech and then the formal session was concluded by the vote of thanks. Session 2 was a seminar arranged for our students. The seminar on the topic, “Tourism and job,a better future for all” (theme of World tourism day 2019) was taken by Mr. Ratheesh R Nath, the chairman of Paradise Holidays and Paradise Home stay. He detailed to them the varied opportunities of the tourism field and also talked about the advantages of being an entrepreneur.
