The World Environment Day celebrations 2020 was organized by the Department of Chemistry and Research Centre were inaugurated by Dr. M. A. Solomon, CoE, St.Albert’s college (Autonomous) by planting a sapling.
Webinar on Gender Sensitization
Department of Chemistry and Research Centre, St. Albert’s College (Autonomous) organized a Webinar on Gender Sensitisation “സധൈര്യം മുന്നോട്ട്” on Wednesday, 24th June 2020 at 2 pm. Dr. Kochurani Joseph, Former Associate Professor, Department of Economics, Bharata Mata College gave a talk on “Gender Sensitization.”
Junior Scientist Programme and Release of Video Content Series on Chemistry Lab Experiments
Due to the ongoing pandemic, the Junior Scientist Programme was conducted as a video recording program. Dr. Vijay John Gerson, Head of the Department introduced the programs and explained the significance of this subject. Mr. Joseph Prince D and Dr. Nisha V. S., faculties of department of chemistry conducted many experiments. Navadarsan, the educational agency of the Archdiocese of Verapoly, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry & Research Centre released the Video Content Series I & 2 as part of the Academic Extension Programme for the students enrolled in the Junior Scientist Programme.
Inauguration of Alchemy Science Forum and Ozone Day Celebration
Department of Chemistry and Research Centre initiated a new venture named “Alchemy Science Forum”, in connection with platinum jubilee of the college. The activities of Alchemy Science Forum aim at strengthening academic and social integrity of the students and to bridge in transferring the general scientific aspects to the society. The inauguration of “Alchemy Science Forum” and Ozone day celebration was held on 16th September 2020, through online.
”Athmadeep”— Training on Soap Making & Fresh Flower Making
Department of Chemistry and Research Centre organized an Academic Extension Program ‘Aathmadeep’ on 30th September 2020 at I2 pm.
Vigilance Awareness Programme
Department of Chemistry and Research Centre conducted a Vigilance awareness program on 4 th November 2020 in collaboration with Vigilance and Anti- Corruption Bureau, Central Range through google meet.
International Science Day Celebration 2020
International Science Day celebration was held on 10″‘ November 2020. Dr. Rajesh K, Dean Research, St Albert’s College (Autonomous) welcomed the gathering. Dr. Vijay John Gerson, Head of Department of Chemistry and Research Centre inaugurated the celebration and gave the message for the Day.
Chemistry Association Inauguration Rasavyuham – 2021
The inauguration of Chemistry Association was held on 23 January 2021. The program was conducted in both offline and online mode in which the first year UG and PG students along with their parents participatedProf. Aravind K., Department of Chemistry, S. B. College, Changanassery inaugurated Association of Chemistry and given a talk on “Science of Bubbles”.
2019-’20
Soap Making and Fresh Flower Arrangement
The Department of Chemistry and Research Centre initiated two extension programmes, soap making and fresh flower arrangement. This year, extension programme was inaugurated on 26 July 2019. A class on fresh flower arrangement was conducted by Dr. Nifi Benny for first year B Sc Chemistry students. Students from Industrial chemistry participated in the training programme for soap making. Rasajalakam
The official inauguration of “RASAJALAKAM” was held on 1st September 2019 at St. Francis Assisi Cathedral, Ernakulam in collaboration with Catechetical Department of the Cathedral. The programme was inaugurated by Very Rev. Msgr. Joseph Padiyaramparambil, Parish Priest of the Cathedral. The technical session began with a presentation on the topic “Step into the Wonderful World of Chemistry” by Dr. Nisha V S Assistant, Professor, Department of Chemistry, St. Albert’s college (Autonomous) Ernakulam
Teachers Day Celebrations
Teacher’s day was observed on 5th September 2019. As a mark of respect to the teachers, the PG students engaged the UG classes for two hours. The students and student-teachers found this experience not only fun but also an exposure to the world of teaching.
Meet the Albchemist
“Meet the Albchemist” is a platform for the students to interact with the prominent alumini’s of the college. An alumnus of the Department of Chemistry, Mr. Sayeesh. M (2010-2015, B.Sc & M.Sc) visited the department on 5th September 2019. An interactive session was organized with first year and second year post graduate students.

Department of Chemistry and Research Centre conducted Junior Scientist Programme on 21st September 2019.
Lab Visit by the Students of MES College, Nedumgandam
As part of the academic extension programme, seventeen undergraduate students and three teachers of MES College, Nedumgandam visited the Water Analysis Lab and Research Lab of the Department of Chemistry on 25th October 2019. They also visited centralized lab, B.Sc and M.Sc labs and had a glance at the various instruments in the laboratories.
“RASAJALAKAM” Second Edition
“RASAJALAKAM” second edition was held on 25th October 2019 in St.Albert’s HSS auditorium. Dr. M. A. Solomon, Head of the Department of Chemistry. St. Albert’s college (Autonomous) Ernakulam introduced the program to the students. The technical session began with a presentation on the topic “The Beauty of Earth” by Dr.Vijay John Gerson, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, St. Albert’s college (Autonomous) Ernakulam. Industrial Visit – Centrl Institute of Plastic and Engineering Technology (CIPET)
As part of the academic extension programme, eighty undergraduate students and four teachers of St. Albert’s College, Ernakulam visited the Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology, Kochi on 3rd December 2019. Dr. Sooraj Varma, Assistant professor, CIPET, Kochi gave an introduction about the different programs and activities conducted in CIPET.
EXPO 2020
The Department of Chemistry and Research Centre actively participated in the EXPO. There were six exhibits from the Department of Chemistry. Apart from this, Chemistry department presented an open Lab for the people also.
2018-’19
OZONE DAY CELEBERATION 2
We celebrated ozone day on 17 th September, 2018, by organizing an inter departmental poster making competion. Students from different departments participated in this competition. More than six teams prepared their posters. All these posters exposed novel and ingenious ideas to protect the ozone layer. The top two teams were awarded special cash prizes. Department of Mathematics and industrial chemistry (First year) has won the first and second places respectively.
SYLLABUS REVISION WORKSHOP 1
A workshop has been conducted on 28th November and experts from Maharaja’s College and SN College, Maliankara and an expert from Industry visited our department. Faculties in the department were divided into four groups under the leadership of four experts and necessary corrections were made. Dr.Ananthapadmanaphan, Dr.Cibi Komalan, Dr. Rajagopal and Dr. Kochubaby Manjooran was here to discuss about the syllabus.

TALK ON LAB SAFETY
The Department organized an awareness program for the B.Sc students on “Lab Safety Measures” by Dr. Jude Martin Mendez. The talk incorporated hazards of chemicals and the safety measures to be adopted. The topics discussed were safety precautions, safety measures, safe working with chemicals and first aid. This talk was highly beneficial to the students and gave an insight for the safe handling of laboratory activities
Walk with a Scientist Programme 1
Walk with a Scientist” programme was initiated by department of chemistry in the year 2017. In this innovative programme eminent scientists from the country as well as abroad will give a lecture on their respective areas of research and also interact with the students. This year’s interaction was with Dr. Werner Mormann from Germany. He discussed about his research, culture of Germany and his journey through his life. This was really a fantastic and unforgettable experience for the students.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY CELEBRATIONS 1
Each world environment day is organized around a theme that focuses an intention on a particular environmental concern. The theme for 2018 “Beat plastic pollution,” is a call to action for all of us to come together to combat one of the great environmental challenges of our time. In this occasion, department of chemistry organized a poster making completions on the above theme, The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Jude martin mendez, Head of the department. Students from various departments participated in this competition. We have also inititiated a progragramme “ green labs “ in order to provide a healthy atmosphere for our students. The pragramme aim to make a small garden of antioxidant plants along the corridor in front of the chemistry laboratory.

Chemistry Association inauguration
Chemistry Association inauguration was held on 17th July 2018. Head of the department Dr.Jude Martin Mendez gave the welcome address and opening remarks. The function was presided over by Dr. M. L. Joseph, Principal St. Albert’s college (Autonomous) Ernakulam. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Muhammed Shafi. He enlightened the young minds with his inspiring words. After this formal session, he gave a talk on “ Influence of chemistry in our day to day life”. The talk gave an insight to the role of chemistry in our daily life. All students from department participated in this event.
DQAC Meeting
A meeting of Deppartment Quality Assurance Cell was conducted on 17th October 2018 at 11 am in the Department of Chemistry. External experts Dr. Ananthapadmanbhan and Dr. Sanilkumar were present.
Meet the Albchemist
“Meet the Albchemist” is a platform for the students to interact with the Alumni. The programme aims at the sharing of the yester year experiences by the prominent alumini’s of the college. Mr. Prakash Michael( Process Engineer, Dunlop Aircraft Tyre Ltd, UK) Mr.Froid Mendez, Mr.Rajesh kumar and Mr.Freddy K K (Senior Quality Assurance Professional) of 1991-1994 batch visited our department and interact with our students. They shared the feeling and belongingness towards their almamater. They introduced the students about the opportunities in their respective field of work. Final year students participated in
this programme. The programme was a wide spread exposure to our students.
