Fitness training: Elements of a well-rounded routine

The Department of Fitness Management and Personal Training, St. Albertā€™s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam organized a ā€˜Fitness training: Elements of a well-rounded routineā€™ workshop on 15th December 2022. It focused on Fitness training and balances five elements of good health, routine includes aerobic fitness, strength training, core exercises, balance training, and flexibility and stretching.

Mr. Gijo Jose Mathew, who is a founder and fitness enthusiast, KINGSMAN FITNESS CLUB, Chittoor, Ernakulam was invited as a guest speaker to provide a session to take the first steps on the road to fitness. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Antony Thoppil, Chairman of the college, who talked about the importance of fitness and to add in daily routine. The students actively participated in the sessions including practicals.

A live demo was provided by Mr. Gijo Jose Mathew about strength training, core exercises, balance training, and flexibility and stretching with the help of gym equipment. For most healthy adults, he recommended at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity a week, or a combination of moderate and vigorous activity. They suggest spreading out this exercise during the course of a week. To help with weight loss or staying at a healthy weight, at least 300 minutes a week is recommended. Ms. Athira Santhosh, Reps India Certified Trainer given a well-rounded fitness training plan and to add these five elements to fitness program to have a balanced routine. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the head of the department Ms. Arsha Sathyan.

‘Keep Fit: Health and Fitness

The Department of Fitness Management and Personal Training, St. Albertā€™s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam organized a ‘Keep Fit: Health and Fitness’ seminar on 13th October 2021 for all the students with the aim of spreading awareness and encouraging a healthy lifestyle. Mr. Gijo Jose Mathew, who is a proprietor and fitness enthusiast, KINGSMAN FITNESS CLUB, Chittoor, Ernakulam was invited as a guest speaker to impart knowledge on the need of a fit body and healthy mind. Theevent was inaugurated by Fr. Antony Arackal, Chairman of the college, who talked about various fitness tips and tricks. The students were apprised about various ways in which a healthy lifestyle can be inculcated in their regular routines.

A live demo was provided by Mr. Gijo Jose Mathew about cardiovascular exercises that can be done within a short period of time anywhere without any equipment.

Students practiced along and took a resolution to change their lazy lifestyles and become healthier. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by the head of the department Ms. Arsha Sathyan.
