CSIR-UGC Net Coaching For Mathematical Sciences

The Mathematics department of St. Albert’s College(Autonomous) in Association with Kerala State Minority Welfare Department is conducting CSIR-UGC Net Coaching classes for Mathematics and Statistics Students from various parts of Kerala. 

The inaugural ceremony of CSIR-UGC Net Coaching was conducted online on 24 February 2022 at 6:00 p.m. The program began with a prayer song by Sr. Rincy Varghese of 2nd MSc mathematics. Dr Sabu M C, Vice Principal and HOD of mathematics Department welcomed the gathering. Followed by that Dr Solomon M A, Principal of St. Albert’s College delivered the presidential address. The guest of the day was Mr. Salu Somanathan who is the author of the book ‘Panacea Mathematica – The Complete Solution Manuals for CSIR/UGC/NET Examination’. Dr. Anto A M, Assistant Professor of Mathematics department introduced the guest to the audience. After that Mr. Salu Somanathan gave a detailed description about the NET exam and also about the syllabus for the exam. Finally the program came to an end around 7:15 p.m. by a vote of thanks by Ms. Andria Tojo. Ms. Dhanya Joy of 2nd MSc Mathematics was the student coordinator. The coaching classes began on 26th February 2022 at 11:00 a.m.

Week 1: On 26/02/2022 there were 2 sessions of 2 and a half hours duration each. First session was from 11.00 am to 1.30 pm. It was on Real Analysis and was handled by Ms. Jeema Jose. Second session was from 2.30 pm to 5.00 p. It was on Linear Algebra and was handled by Dr. Binu M. On 27/02/2022 there were 2 sessions of 2 hours duration each. First session was from 9.00 am to 11.00 am. It was on Linear Algebra and was handled by Ms. Andria Tojo. Second session was also on Linear Algebra by Dr. Binu M from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm.

Week 2: On 01/03/2022 there were 3 sessions. First session was on Linear Algebra by Ms. Andria Tojo from 9.00 am to 10.00 am. Second session was on Real Analysis by Ms. Ritty Jacob from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm. Third session was on Linear Algebra by Ms. Andria Tojo from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm. On 03/03/2022 there was 1 session on ODE by Ms. Jeesmol P Y from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm. On 05/03/2022 there were 2 sessions. First session was on Complex Analysis by Ms. Golda Mary Joseph from 9.00 am to 11.00 am. Second session was on Real Analysis by Ms. Ritty Jacob from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm. On 06/03/2022 there were 2 sessions. First session was on Abstract Algebra by Ms. Divya Mary Daise S from 9.00 am to 11.00 am. Second session was on Complex Analysis by Ms. Andria Tojo from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm.

Webinar on “An Introduction to Hadamard Product of Matrices”

As a part of Albertian Knowledge Summit (AKS) – 2022, on 10-02-2022, Department of Mathematics, St. Albert’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam arranged a talk on “An Introduction to Hadamard Product of Matrices”, by an eminent personality Dr. Gayathri Varma, Adjunct Instructor, Department of Mathematics, University of South Carolina, USA. Dr. Sabu M C, Head, Department of Mathematics, other faculty members and students from Mathematics department took part in the session.

The meeting started at 08.00 am with a silent prayer. The meeting was hosted by Dr. Sabu M C. Dr. Binu M and Dr. Anto A M were the staff coordinators. Smt. Jeema Jose, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics welcomed the gathering. This was followed by an introduction speech about the chief guest by Dr.Binu M, Department of Mathematics. The chief guest was invited to speak after the introduction. Dr. Gayathri Varma gave a very informative and enlightening session on the topic. She explained how matrices evolved and how we can convert a system of linear equations into matrices and to represent matrices as linear transformations. She also introduced the Hadamard Product and its properties. She also gave an idea about the relation between ordinary matrix products and Hadamard products. Following this, an interactive session was allowed and the doubts were clarified. After this lively session, the meeting came to an end with a few words of thanks by Sr. Rincy Varghese, II M. Sc. Mathematics. Mary Nevya Joseph and Meera P  of II M.Sc. Mathematics were the student coordinators. The session ended by 9.am.

Webinar on “Navier Stokes Equations – The Million Dollar Problem”

As a part of Albertian Knowledge Summit (AKS) – 2022, on 10-02-2022, Department of Mathematics, St. Albert’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam arranged a talk on “Navier Stokes Equations – The Million Dollar Problem”, by an eminent personality Dr. Manil T Mohan, Department of Mathematics, IIT Roorkee. Dr. Sabu M C, Head, Department of Mathematics, other faculty members and students from Mathematics department took part in the session.

The meeting started at 9.30 a.m with a silent prayer. The meeting was hosted by Dr. Sabu M C. Dr. Binu M and Dr. Anto A M were the staff coordinators. Ms. Ritty Jacob welcomed the gathering. This was followed by an introduction speech about the chief guest by Dr. Anto A M. The chief guest was invited to speak after the introduction. Dr. Manil T Mohan gave a very informative and enlightening session on the topic. He explained about the fundamental equations of fluid dynamics. He also introduced the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and its properties. He also explained the Millenium Prize problem. He also gave an idea of formal calculus energy and how we can obtain pressure from Navier-Stokes equations. Following this, an interactive session was allowed and the doubts were clarified. After this lively session, the meeting came to an end with a few words of thanks by Dhanya Joy, II M.Sc. Mathematics. Mary Nevya Joseph and Meera P  of II M.Sc. Mathematics were the student coordinators. The session ended by 10:30am.

Webinar on “Analytics: Application of common sense”

As a part of Albertian Knowledge Summit (AKS) – 2022, on 10-02-2022, Department of Mathematics, St. Albert’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam arranged  a talk on “Analytics: Application of common sense”, by an eminent  personality TATHAGATA BANDYOPADHAYA, Retired Professor, IIM, Ahmedabad. The Dr. Sabu M C, Head of Mathematics Department, other faculty members and  students from  Mathematics department  took part in the session.

The meeting started at 10.00 a.m with a silent prayer. The meeting was hosted by  Dr. Sabu M C. Sr. Rincy Varghese of 2nd M Sc Mathematics welcomed the gathering . This was followed by Dr. Sabu M C introducing the speaker to the audience. The chief guest was invited to speak after the introduction. Prof. Tathagata Bandyopadhaya gave a very informative and enlightening  session on the topic. His words of wisdom helped to magnify the listeners’ knowledge. He explained about the Fermi problem, Salt and statistics, a true story from ‘Statistic and truth’ by C R Rao and gave an idea on how statistics helps in reaching  the truth. Following this, an interactive session was allowed and the doubts were clarified. After this lively session, the meeting came to an end with a few words of thanks by Dr Binu M. This event was followed by paper presentations by two teachers. Ms. Aiswarya S Sasidharan presented a paper entitled “Maximum Mass for an Exact Superdense Star Model” and Ms. Soubhagya S Prabhu presented a paper entitled “Semi Parametric Estimation Of Time To Test Transform For Lomax Distribution”.  The event was closed by 11.25 a.m.Â
