The NSS Unit of St. Albert’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam conducted a Seven Day Special Camp 2020 named ‘Dhyuthi’  from 26 December, 2020 to 1 January,  2021.

Dr. M C Dileep Kumar, Former Vice Chancellor of Sree Shankaracharya University of Sanskrit and Kerala Kalamandalam inaugurated Dhyuthi on 26 December, 2020. He also delivered a thought provoking speech. The theme of the camp was ‘Youth for Prevention and Mitigation of Covid-19.’ Fr. Jolly John Odathakkal, Assistant Manager, St. Albert’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam delivered the Presidential Address. Dr. Rosalind Gonzaga, Vice Principal, St. Albert’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam and Mr. Sebastian A V, NSS Programme Officer, St. Albert’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam felicitated the gathering.

On the same day, an Orientation was given to the NSS Volunteers by Dr. K Madhusudhanan, Assistant Professor and Former NSS Programme Officer, St. Albert’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam. The session was on National Service Scheme, the NSS Anthem, NSS Motto, NSS Clap and Duties of a volunteer. The class helped the volunteers to understand their duties. NSS Programme Officers Mr. Sebastian A V and Ms. Sumisha E S organised the programme along with the NSS Secretaries Yadu Krishna and Jisna Johnson.

Activities of 27 December started with a session on Yoga and Meditation. Faseena M S, Yoga Trainer/Student, St. Albert’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam spoke of the importance of Yoga and held demonstrations as well. Volunteers observed the trainer and performed the activities.

On the same day, a webinar was held on ‘Animal Welfare as a Social Responsibility.’ The resource person for the day was Ms. Sally Varma, Senior Campaigner, Farm Animal Protection Campaign, HSI/India. The session was on the importance of animals and their rights. Volunteers recognised that the protection of animals is a social responsibility and each volunteer has a part to play in it.

This was followed by ‘Water Bowl Programme for Animals and Birds’ by NSS volunteers. Volunteers prepared videos on #nomore50 which focused on increasing the penalties for animal cruelty from 50 Rupees. Videos and art works related to Animal welfare and reduction of animal products were also done by volunteers.

On 28 December, 2020, a discussion on ‘Gender Equality and Society’ was held. The resource person for the programme was Sheethal Shyam, Artist and Member of the State Trans Justice Board, Patron of the National Organization of Violence, Vice President of the Sangama and Volunteer of the Disha Organization.

On the same day, NSS volunteers planted saplings. Each person planted a minimum of 5 Saplings in their immediate surroundings.

The activities of 29 December, 2020 started with a discussion on ‘Covid 19: Practical Lessons on Surviving the Pandemic.’ The Resource person for the programme was Mr. Aravindan, Junior Health Inspector, PHC Pannikkottur. The interactive session focused on the precautions to be taken during the pandemic. The session focused on the history of Covid-19 and other pandemic diseases, preventive measures and general awareness.

On the same day, NSS volunteers distributed cloth bags in their own localities. Volunteers spread awareness on the use of cloth bags and the harmful effects of plastic. All programmes was conducted under the leadership of NSS Programme Officers Mr. Sebastian A V and Ms. Sumisha E S along with the NSS Secretaries Yadu Krishna and Jisna Johnson.
