St. Albertā€™s College has a history of 70 years of selfless service in the field of higher education and has been producing committed dynamic leaders for society. The campus is situated in the heart of the Kochi city, the ā€˜business capitalā€™ of Kerala. The College is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University and is functioning under the management of the Archdiocese of Verapoly.

Logistics is generally the detailed organization and implementation of a complex operation. In a general business sense, logistics is the management of the flow of things between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet requirements of customers or corporations. The resources managed in logistics can include physical items such as food, materials, animals, equipment, and liquids; as well as abstract items, such as time and information. The logistics of physical items usually involves the integration of information flow, material handling, production, packaging, inventory, transportation, warehousing, and often security.

Milestones


First time in Kerala, a University has started a 3-year full-time UG Degree Programme in Logistics Management, in St. Albertā€™s.

A fully vocational skill enhancement Programme, under Logistics Sector Skill Council, Ministry of Human Resources, GOI, commenced the first Batch, in November 2014, under the Department of Commerce.

  • Became an independent Department (Dept. of Vocational Studies – DVS) in 2015.
  • B.Voc students initiated wearing Uniform on every Tuesdays & Thursdays.
  • The Department has now 7 Full-time faculty members and 174 students, with 1: 25 ratio.
  • Secured 2nd and 3rd rank in MG university examination.
  • Fourth batch came into the self-financing status, with an inter-state diversity
  • Answer sheetsā€™ distribution for the internal examinations has been started by July 2017.
  • EPIFANO Season 1 ā€“ 2018
  • In the academic year 2020 November, UGC has launched a programme M.Voc Logistics & Supply Chain Management in addition to B.Voc programme.

Department at a glance


The University Grants Commission (UGC) has launched a scheme on skills development based on higher education as part of college/university education, leading to Bachelor of Vocation (B. Voc) degree, an undergraduate course with multiple exits as Diploma / Advanced Diploma / Degree under the National Skill Qualifications Framework (NSQF).
Department of Vocational Studies in Logistics Management is successfully continuing its journey since 2014 in St. Albertā€™s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam. The B. Voc Logistics Management is a three-year programme which was commenced in the academic year 2014 November and it gained its momentum gradually. Now the programme is a self-financing course since 2017 Now the programme is self ā€“financing course since 2017. In the academic year 2020 November, UGC has launched a programme M.Voc Logistics & Supply Chain Management in addition to B.Voc programme. where it fledges with 7 full time faculties and 170 plus students .

The managerial skills of B Voc Logistics Management contribute to the organizational structure of the programmes conducted by the Department. The programme incorporates the requirements of various industries in its curriculum, in an innovative manner to produce holistic and well-groomed graduates and to ensure that the graduates have adequate knowledge and skills for employment and entrepreneurship. The implementation of vocational aspects, internships and OJTs in every semester and contributions from experts from the field make the academics stands out from the usual traditional programmes.

Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) is an undergraduate course based on higher education leading to B.Voc. degree, with multiple entry and exits as certificate / Diploma / Advanced Diploma / Degree under the National Skill Qualification framework (NSQF).The aim of this programme is to equip the young graduates with adequate knowledge and skills for employment and entrepreneurship in the logistics  industry.

Logistics industry is considered as the backbone of the economy as it makes sure efficient and economical flow of goods and other commercial sectors are dependent on it. Logistics is one of the most important basic industries for any economic growth. Today each and every organization stands at a forefront because of their effective & efficient supply chain network. It includes the management of the flow of products from the place of origin to the place of consumption. This industry has several integrated processes like material handling, warehousing, packaging, transportation, shipping security, inventory management, Supply Chain Management, procurement, and customs service. The generation today is completely dependent on internet, preferring everything to be delivered at their doorstep with minimum time, that is now possible because of Logistics operations today. Logistics industry in India is growing rapidly. It is a vast field with enormous opportunities for talented and energetic future managers in India as well as abroad.

The scope of undergoing B. Voc Logistics Management programme is flourishing every day, as the numbers of Retail & FMCG companies are increasing in India. It is also increasing due to rise in supply chain spending faster than the overall economy and company management recognizing the importance of Supply Chain Management. Today there are so many colleges & universities offering different type of courses in the same domain.

SACA, being the top & the most awarded and experienced institution in the academics of Logistics aims to make skilled professionals to meet the competitiveness of the emerging scenario. The curriculum of B.Voc assigned with NOS (National occupational Standards) and Qualification packs given by respective Sector Skill Councils under NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation). The curriculum covers skill components in different areas of logistics industry including warehouse & inventory management, shipping and ocean freight operations, export import operations, international logistics management, operations management, etc and general component which include marketing management, supply chain management, enterprise resource planning, customer relationship management, etc. The programme also includes internships in every even semester and OJTS in every odd semester. Further, to enhance their vision industrial experts as well as academicians are invited for seminars and discussion on the operations of logistics area. Also, experts from various backgrounds and alumni from our institution are invited to empower the students as a part of motivational talks and providing grooming sessions by giving them clear guidance on their career.
