Department at a glance

The Post Graduate Department of English commenced in the year 2006 and offers MA English. It is a self-financing programme that follows the restructured syllabus of Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. Taking advantage of the Autonomous status of the college, we have chosen Elective Papers for the final semester that would enable students to qualify for the National Eligibility Test (NET)/JRF with ease. The Syllabus is also a combination of Conventional and Contemporary literary works so that students are updated with the latest trends in the subject. This is further enhanced by the compulsory Research Project that would give insight into Literary Theory and Analysis. Knowledge rich seminars are conducted for students to imbibe the theoretical and literary advancements with expert talk and deliberations from Indian and International faculties.

Message from HoD

The Post Graduate Department of English at St.Albert’s College (Autonomous), Ernakulam was formed in the year 2006 offering MA English Programme under Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. In the year 2016, the college was granted Autonomy and The Post Graduate Department of English follows the guidelines and as a result, the examinations are conducted and results are published within the stipulated timeframe. This enables students to pursue higher studies or choose to start their career soon after the course. Students are given career options through the placement cell or on a case to case basis. There is continuous brainstorming to think about various possibilities of planning career after completing the MA English Course.

Research is given due importance and the mandatory of presentation of a paper during the course of study, enables students to gain a deeper understanding of various literary works and theory.  Students are encouraged to participate in National and International Seminar and Webinar to stay updated about new concepts in English Literature and Literary Theory.

The Syllabus is also revised to keep in pace with the changing scenario of learning English literature. Students are given opportunity to play an active role in all the programs and co-curricular activities conducted in the college, thereby giving them a chance to become future leaders.
